Sam Breault: The Fenn Class of 2016
March 10…Concord Academy…
On March 10th, I was accepted into my dream school, Concord Academy. Consequently, I made the rather easy decision of leaving Fenn. Now, when I say easy, I honestly do mean easy. For me, it was not and is still not a difficult decision to say goodbye to five amazing years of growth and prosper. Saying this, however, does make me feel alone, given the 15 reflection videos I just witnessed. In almost every video, people always reflected on how difficult it is going to be to say goodbye, but I do not share this same emotion. To me, life is about change, and ultimately, life is about opportunities; opportunities to find something new about yourself.
Getting overly emotional about leaving middle school doesn’t make sense to me. In my mind, it really is just middle school and spending useful energy on feeling emotional is pointless. However, these videos have changed my outlook and opinion on feeling remorse about leaving a school. They have demonstrated to me that it is pertinent that I become more empathetic towards other emotions.
I mean, don’t we all have our own thing? I have my anxiety over examinations and I guess most of you have your sadness about leaving Fenn.
The process of reflecting and then commenting on others reflections is a process that allows you to learn new things about yourself that you would have never been aware of previously.
This year has been special, and I am fortunate to have shared it with so many of you…
